Chapter 5: Class C License
The Class C license is the standard license nearly every California driver holds, and it is broader than many people expect.
What a Class C License Covers
- Sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and other standard passenger cars
- Pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles
- Vans and minivans carrying 15 or fewer passengers, counting the driver
- Motorhomes up to 40 feet in length
- Farm labor vehicles carrying three or fewer people
What It Does Not Cover
A Class C license does not authorize you to drive commercial tractor-trailers, passenger buses carrying the public, or motorcycles — each of those needs its own license class or endorsement, covered in the following chapters. If you are only ever going to drive a personal car or a family SUV, Class C is the only license you will ever need.
