It Is Not Just Illegal Drugs
Impairment law in California covers any substance that affects your ability to drive safely — that includes many prescription medications and even some over-the-counter drugs like strong antihistamines, not only illegal drugs.
Check the Label
Many medications carry an explicit warning against driving or operating machinery. Take that warning seriously even if you feel fine — some medications impair reaction time and judgment in ways the person taking them does not subjectively notice.
