Chapter 29: Freeway Entry
Using the Acceleration Lane
The acceleration lane exists specifically so you can match freeway speed before merging, not to sit at a low speed waiting for a gap. Build speed steadily, signal your intent, then merge smoothly once you have identified a safe gap.
Who Yields
Entering traffic yields to vehicles already established on the freeway — never assume freeway traffic will slow down for you. Never stop within the acceleration lane itself unless a complete traffic blockage genuinely leaves no other option; a stopped vehicle there is a serious rear-end collision risk.
