Bike Lanes Are Off-Limits
Never drive or park in a marked bike lane, even briefly. Doing so forces cyclists to merge suddenly into vehicle traffic to get around your car, which is exactly the situation bike lanes exist to prevent.
The Door Zone
Before opening your driver-side door after parking, check your mirror and look back for an approaching cyclist — "dooring" a cyclist is a serious, entirely preventable type of collision.
Passing Distance
California law requires at least three feet of clearance when passing a bicyclist. If the lane is too narrow to give that space while staying in your lane, wait for a safe opportunity to briefly use the adjacent lane instead.
