Chapter 26: Passing
Where Passing Is Legal
Pass only on the left, and never on a hill crest, a curve with limited sightlines, or where a solid yellow line is marked on your side of the road. Each of these situations removes your ability to see oncoming traffic in time to abort the pass safely.
Completing a Safe Pass
Before merging back into your original lane, confirm you can see the vehicle you just passed in your rearview mirror — that visual confirmation is the simplest reliable check that you have left enough room. Never exceed the posted speed limit simply to complete a pass faster; if you cannot pass safely within the limit, wait for a better opportunity instead.
