📖 Reading Material

Chapter 28: Reversing

Look, Don't Just Check Mirrors

Turn and look directly over your shoulder out the rear window rather than relying solely on mirrors, which have blind spots exactly where a small child, pet, or low obstacle might be standing. Back up slowly enough to stop instantly if something unexpected appears.

Freeway Reversing Is Illegal

Never back up on a freeway or its shoulder, even to reach a missed exit. The correct move is always to continue to the next exit and find your way back — a stopped or reversing vehicle on a freeway shoulder is one of the most dangerous situations for both its own occupants and approaching traffic.
